Conservatory Chorus, led by director Eric Choate, is a cornerstone of the curriculum. Regardless of a student's major, participation in choral singing enhances their sensitivity as an ensemble musician, hones their musicianship skills, and refines their intonation and balance. Students develop an instinct for phrasing by connecting notes with the human breath, perform in multiple languages, and encounter a diverse range of periods and style—from Renaissance polyphony to Spirituals. The Chorus has performed major choral works such as Fauré’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mozart’s Requiem, Pärt’s Te Deum, Thompson’s Frostiana, Bloch's Sacred Service, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 3. The Chorus has also collaborated with renowned ensembles like Chanticleer and performed with the California Symphony and the SFCM Orchestra.
